Appendix E: Configuring a Virtual Serial Port
The MergePoint SP manager has the ability to access target devices with iLO through the Virtual
Serial port. To use this feature, you must enable the Virtual Serial port on both the BIOS Serial
Console and EMS Console. When the Virtual Serial port is enabled, it provides remote access
through the iLO management controller to the BIOS Serial Console.
To configure BIOS Serial Console:
1.
Enter ROM-Based Setup Utility by pressing

Select BIOS Serial Console and EMS on the main menu and press

Select BIOS Serial Console Port, then press
4.
Select Com1 or Com2 as the BIOS Serial Console Port and press
To configure EMS Console:
1.
Enter ROM-Based Setup Utility by pressing

Select BIOS Serial Console and EMS on the main menu and press
3.
Select EMS Console, then press
4.
Select the same port that you selected for the BIOS Serial Console Port and press
the selection.
