14. Holding the backplane only by the edges, lift it from the chassis. Use caution so you do not
press on any components on the backplane.
15. (If converting from a fixed drive system to hot-swap drive system only): Store the air baffles,
any cables you removed, and any removed CD-ROM / DVD-ROM or floppy drive
components.
16. Store the backplane for future use.
17. (If converting from a hot-swap drive system to a fixed drive system only): Use the instructions
that came with your fixed drive kit to install the fixed drive components.
18. (If installing a new SATA or SCSI backplane only): Follow the instructions below to replace
your backplane.

Installing a Replacement SATA or SCSI Backplane

If you are installing a SATA or SCSI backplane for the first time (not installing a replacement
backplane), see the installation instructions that came with your backplane. The instructions below
assume some of the cables are already installed.
1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this book. See
Information."
2. Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable or DC
external source.
3. Remove the chassis cover. For instructions, see

6. Remove the PCI riser assembly. For instructions, see
7. Remove all hot-swap drive carriers, regardless of whether a drive is installed in the carrier. If
the drives will be reinstalled, it is not necessary to remove the hard drives from the carriers.
