Serial Connections :
Through its serial ports, the INDeX supports programming via serial cable
connections. This can be either a direct serial cable connection or a modem serial
connection. The INDEX includes an integrated modem that can be used for serial
connection.
– Comms Programs :
The INDeX can be programmed using any terminal or communication software
that supports DEC VT100 emulation. To ensure that you see the full range of
screen characters and accents the program must use a font that supports the
ANSI character set, for example with Windows Hyperterm use the Courier New
or Fixedsys fonts.
– Kermit V 2.29b :
Kermit V2.29b is a file transfer protocol built into the INDeX for serial port file
uploads and downloads. Kermit V2.29b must be used on the programming
PC for those operations . Kermit V2.29b does not support the full ANSI
character set so when used for programming some menu characters will not
be displayed correctly.
Ethernet Port Connections :
Both the Index 30 and CPU-X are equipped with a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports.
This port can be used to connect the INDeX to a LAN or directly to a PC network
card for programming access.
– Telnet :
This program can be used to access the INDeX for system programming. It
cannot be used for file uploads and download.
– FTP :
Command line FTP programs can be used to perform file uploads and download
in parallel with Telnet programming access.
– SNMP :
The INDeX can be set up to support SNMP access. This requires a SNMP
program that has been set up with the INDeX .MIB file (available from our web
site) and SNMP settings provided by the network manager.
