MAINTENANCE

Troubleshooting

The following chart is designed to help you correct problems which are not equipment malfunctions.
If you are unable to locate the cause of a problem, or solve it through the use of this chart, contact your nearest
Icom Dealer or Service Center.
PROBLEM
Power does not come
on when
is
POWER
pushed.
No sound is heard from
the speaker.
Sensitivity is too low,
and only strong signals
can be heard.
No power output or the
output power is too low.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Power cable is improperly
connected.
The external power supply is turned
OFF.
The DC power cable fuses or
circuitry fuse are blown.
Audio level is too low.
The squelch is closed.
The tone squelch is ON in the FM
mode.
An external speaker or headphones
are connected to [PHONES] jack.
The external speaker cable is cut.
The attenuator is activated.
The squelch is closed.
The antenna is defective or the
coaxial cable connector is shorted
or cut.
You are using an antenna not
suitable for the band you have
selected.
The operating frequency is outside a
ham band.
The modulation input signal level is
set too low.
The microphone is bad, or the [MIC]
connector is shorted.
The antenna SWR is more than 3:1.
The antenna is not properly tuned.
TX power is set too low.
SOLUTION
Reconnect the DC power cable
correctly.
Turn ON the external power supply.
Find and repair the cause of the
problem and then replace the
damaged fuse with a new one.
Rotate
AF
RF/SQL
to obtain a suitable listening level.
Rotate
AF
RF/SQL
o'clock position to open the squelch.
Turn OFF the Tone squelch.
Disconnect the head-phone or
external speaker.
Check the external speaker cable
and repair it.
Turn OFF the attenuator in the
FUNCTION screen.
Rotate
AF
RF/SQL
o'clock position to open the squelch.
Repair the problem and then
reconnect to the antenna connector.
Connect an antenna suitable for the
operating frequency.
Hold down
TUNER
antenna.
Set the frequency to a ham band.
Adjust the microphone gain in the
Multi-function menu.
Try to transmit in the FM, CW, or
RTTY mode to check whether the
microphone or the transceiver has a
problem.
Adjust the antenna for an SWR of
less than 3:1.
Hold down
TUNER
tune the antenna.
Adjust the RF POWER in the Multi-
function menu.
