PROBLEM
No power comes on.
No sound comes from the
speaker.
No beeps sound even when a
'switch is pushed.
Sensitivity is low and only
strong signals are audible.
Transmitting is impossible or
high power cannot be se-
lected.
Desired channel cannot be
selected.
No display backlighting.
Scan does not start.
ive signal cannot be un-
derstood.
TROUBLESHOOTING
* Power cord not connected properly.
* Blown fuse.
* The hailer or intercom function is activated.
*The internal speaker is turned OFF in SET
mode.
* Handset is out of the cradle (when an optional
handset is used).
* Beep function is turned OFF.
* [SQUELCH] is rotated too far clockwise.
* Antenna feedline or the antenna connector sol-
der has poor contact or is short circuited.
* Transmission is restricted on some channels.
* Different channel group is selected.
* Backlight function is turned OFF.
* No "TAG" channels are programmed.

* Check the power cord connection.
* Check the polarity of the power connection, then,
replace the fuse.
* Push [CH/Wx] to turn the function OFF.
* Turn the internal speaker ON in SET mode.
* Set the handset into the cradle.
* Set beep level to 01 or more in SET mode.
* Rotate [SQUELCH] counterclockwise to a suit-
able position.
* Check, and if necessary, replace the feedline or
solder the antenna connector again,
* Change channels.
*Push and hold [CH/Wx * U/I/C] to select the ap-
propriate channel group (U.S.A., INT or CAN).
* While pushing [Hi/LO « DIM], rotate the channel
selector to select the desired brightness.
* Set channels to be scanned as "TAG" channels.
* Voice scrambler has been turned OFF.
* Voice scrambler code has not been set correctly.
* Install the optional UT-98, then activate the func-
tion.
* Reset the scramble code.
