Charging System

Periodic Maintenance

1.
Inspect the entire charging system for loose, damaged, or corroded connectors.
2.
Inspect the charging system wiring for damaged insulation.
3.
Check the alternator drive belt tension and drive belt tensioner for proper operation.
4.
Inspect the alternator drive belt for excess wear and damage.
5.
Check all alternator mounting hardware for proper torque.

Alternator Removal

Performing service or maintenance without first disconnecting the battery can cause product damage, personal injury, or
death due to fire, explosion, electrical shock, or unexpected engine starting. Always disconnect the battery cables from the
battery before maintaining, servicing, installing, or removing engine or drive components.
1.
Disconnect both battery cables from the battery, being certain to disconnect the negative (–) cable first.
2.
Disconnect the alternator lead and ground wires.
3.
Disconnect the alternator excitation wire.
4.
Remove the drive belt.
5.
Remove the alternator mounting screws, washers, and nuts.

6.
Remove the alternator.
