Relay, Single Pole Dual Throw

A relay is an electronically activated switch. It can be
used as a normally open or normally closed switch
depending on which terminals are used. The diagram is
molded into the side of the relay.
At rest terminals 30 and 87a are closed. When 12 volts
is applied to terminals 85 and 86 the relay is activated so
that terminals 30 and 87a open and terminals 30 and 87
close. When the voltage is removed the relay will return
to the rest position (Fig. 1398).

Ignition Switch

The ignition switch has 3 positions; off, run and start.
The start position is spring loaded to return to run when
released. The switch terminals are unmarked. Use the
fi gure above to identify the terminals. Switch continuity is
as follows: Off:
