OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

CW-80 - OPERATING SYSTEM

Overview

A Mitsubishi PLC and touch screen both with dedicated
software has been provided.
This system is utilised to control the overall cooler
including supply and exhaust fans, indirect cooling
pump, direct cooling pump, inlet solenoid, drain valve,
water chlorination, water salinity, incoming and outgoing
signals and instrumentation. This system also provides
appropriate user interface complete with BMS (building
management system) interface.
Control Modes
All touch screen images incorporate the control mode
positioned along the bottom row. Not only can the control
mode be selected here, but the current selection is
shown highlighted.
Off
All fans, pumps, valves and chlorinator are switched off.
However, the instrumentation system remains active -
water level, air pressures and BMS signals can still be
viewed.
Local AUTO
Automatic standalone cooler operation via the
touchscreen. On / Stop, Indirect Cool / Direct Cool / Vent
and Supply Fan Speeds can be selected directly by the
user.
BMS AUTO
Automatic cooler operation via BMS signals or RS485
BACnet interface (if fitted).
These signals determine On / Stop, Indirect Cool / Direct
Cool / Vent and Supply Fan Speeds.
The following home screen is typical of normal ongoing
cooler operation using BMS control (Run and Indirect /
Direct Cool signals), with normal watering of cores in cool
mode.

Operating Mode Statuses

The water tank is filling.
The supply fans may not operate during this tank filling,
this is dependant on previous operating conditions.
Once tank has filled, the exhaust fans are started and
adjusted under PID loop control so as to set up the
correct system air pressures in preparation for core
watering.

ILL2369-B
The indirect cores are being sequentially watered.
The supply fans may not operate during this pre-
wet stage - this is dependent on previous operating
conditions.
To ensure adequate core wetting and subsequent correct
cooling performance, this pre-wetting stage takes around
20 minutes to complete and is influenced by other factors
such as water supply.
ILL2490-B
ILL2490-B
Pre-wet has finished and the cooler is in normal ongoing
sequential watering of cores.
The supply fans commence or continue operation (as
appropriate) at the desired speed.
The exhaust fans continue operation under PID loop
control so as to achieve factory determined air pressure
relationships.
