Attention !
Upon completion of assembly, tighten the set screws (12, 12a) with the 710D1 Torque
Wrench. For trial fitting: Tighten the 506G3 Set Screws to 10 Nm. For completion: Secure
the 506G3 Set Screws with 636K13 Loctite and tighten to 10 Nm.
4.3.2 Adjustment of the bearing
The axis pins of the linkage bars, encased in bushings, are connected to the upper and lower
joint section. The type of bearing and screw connection allows to increase or decrease the fric-
tion and to remove play resulting from ordinary wear and tear. For this, attach lock nut (14) using
enclosed 709S18 Socket Wrench (16). Then tighten socket head cap screw (11) with 5-mm Allen
wrench (Fig. 4). It is of utmost importance that an adjustment to remove play take place after a
breaking-in period of 2 to 4 weeks. At every maintenance check, the adjustment must be verified
and the 4Z43=H Stops (15) replaced. To lubricate the axle bushings (8) and slotted bushings (9)
use 633G6 Ottobock Special Lubricant.
4.3.2.1 Regulating the movement resistance
The flexion and extension resistance can be set independently of each other by sliding the pins in
the transverse slots at the back and front side of the piston rod of the hydraulic regulator (17). To
do so, use the enclosed setting aid (23).
In direction + = more resistance
In direction – = less resistance
4.3.2.2 Regulating the flexion resistance (Fig. 5)
Sliding the back pin (at the flexion side) to the right = decreases resistance = facilitates flexion.
Sliding it to the left = increases resistance = impedes flexion.
4.3.2.3 Regulating the extension resistance (Fig. 6)
Flex joint so that the front pin is accessible.
Sliding pin to the right = decreases resistance = facilitates extension.
Sliding pin to the left = increases resistance = impedes extension.
4.4 Cosmetic foam cover
Use Foam Cover 3R6, 6R6 and 3S107TF for Joint 3R46.
Attention !
Do not use talcum powder to eliminate noise in the cosmetic foam cover. Talcum draws
out grease from the mechanical components. This causes considerable mechanical
malfunctions and can result in blockage of the knee joint, in turn leading to the fall of
the patient. Therefore, using talcum with this medical device will render any warranty
claims against the manufacturer null and void.
Note
To reduce friction and to eliminate noise, apply 519L5 Silicone Spray directly onto the
contact surfaces of the cosmetic foam cover.
Attention !
The elastic sleeve of the hydraulic regulator must be protected from mechanical damage.
The hydraulic regulator should not be disassembled as its position within the joint is fine-
tuned. In case of failure, please send the entire joint to Ottobock Service.
