2.3 Function
The upper joint section (3) with lamination anchor and lower joint section (2) are connected to one
another by axle brackets (4+5) and linkage bars (6). The cosmetic foam cover is only extended by
a small amount due to the polycentric design. The lamination anchor (1) is attached to the residual
limb bedding and constitutes the adjustable connection piece to the coupling core. The pivot point
(instantaneous center of rotation) therewith changes its position in relation to the flexion. In an extended
position, the pivot point lies at the height of the femoral condyles and moves downward and forward with
increasing flexion.
The integrated compact hydraulic regulator (17) serves to generate movement resistances. These
prevent a swing when flexing that is too wide or a stop when extending that is too hard. Contrary
to mechanical gait regulators, the hydraulic unit adapt automatically to different walking speeds,
thereby making for a harmonious gait. The movement resistance (damping resistance) can be
regulated by adjusting the flow cross section, whereby flexion and extension can be set indepen-
dently of each other (see Section 4).
2.4 Service life
Reuse on another patient
Fall due to loss of functionality as well as damage to the product
f Only use the product for a single patient.
f Inform the patient.
As a basic principle, all Ottobock knee joints are subjected to tests involving three million load
cycles. Depending on the amputee's activity this corresponds to a service life of three to five years.

The three-dimensional arrangement of the prosthetic socket and the modular components affects
the static and dynamic functions of the prosthesis. Function of the joint is influenced by the posi-
tion of the axes.
