Check the filter clogging indicator
1. Open the engine hood and make sure that the red piston is
not visible in the indicator (1).
2. If the red piston is visible, clean or replace the filtering
element immediately.
For further details on how to clean the filtering element, see
"CHECKING, CLEANING OR CHANGING THE AIR
FILTER CARTRIDGE (4-24)".
3. After checking, cleaning or replacing the filtering element,
press the knob on the indicator (1), so that the red piston
returns to its original position.
Checking the water separator
1. Open the engine cover.
q The decanter and the fuel pre-filter (1) form a single
unit.
2. The level of water and amount of sediment may be
determined via the transparent cap (2). If there is water or
sediment accumulated at the bottom, place a container
under the drain pipe (3) to collect the water.
3. Open the drain valve (4) and drain the water.
4. Close the drain valve (4) as soon as fuel starts to flow from
the drain pipe (3).
NOTICE
If the water inside the transparent cap is frozen (2), wait for
it to melt before carrying out the drain procedure.
REMARK
q If the transparent cap is dirty (2) making it difficult to see
inside, clean the cap (2) when replacing the fuel pre-filter
cartridge (1).
q When removing the drain valve (4) for cleaning, coat the O-
ring with grease then screw the valve down completely.
