Make sure your scale has been placed in a flat, level, area where you can safely
stand still upon it for at least ten seconds.
Consult the manufacturer user manual to determine if carpet pads, or a carpet
tray must be used with the weight scale: Carpet feet are available for the Welch
Allyn scale. A carpet tray is available for the A&D scale.
While taking weight measurements, have the patient stand as still as possible
for about five to ten seconds, so that the scale can obtain a weight
measurement.
If a patient requires additional support, instruct them to have a walker nearby.
Exchange batteries in between patient assignments and use fresh batteries
prior to patient usage.
A patient should wear the same type of clothing during weight measurements.
Take note of the clothing typically worn, and the approximate weight. Wearing
shoes is acceptable if it helps a patient to maintain balance on the scale.
Always step onto the center of the scale. Do NOT step on the edges.
Keep scales no farther than 30 feet from the health monitor.
Do NOT place the scale near sources of water like sinks or bathtubs.
When the scale has collected weight, it will beep three
times and the words "StEP" and "oFF" will alternately be
displayed as shown on the left. At this time, a patient
should step off the scale.
A screen on the Genesis Touch will continue to indicate
that it is Acquiring data, please wait... until the patient steps
off of the scale. The scale will also beep continuously, indi-
cating that a patient should look at it, and see the notifica-
tion to step off the scale.
