When the monitor prompts patients to step on the scale, a screen similar to the fol-
lowing appears:
When the monitor has connected to the device, a screen similar to the following
appears:
A patient should step on the middle of the scale and stand as still as possible so
that the scale can get a reading. The monitor displays a message that it is Acquir-
ing data, please wait...
When the scale has acquired a weight, a patient will be instructed to step off the
scale.
Note: Patients must be able to stand on a scale without support for the time it takes the
monitor to collect your weight -- approximately 15 - 20 seconds without movement.
Consider placing a walker nearby if additional support may be needed. Alterna-
tively, the NCI Technologies handrail scale may be an option for some patients
requiring stabilization.
Caution: Personal Injury Hazard
Taking measurements with an A&D Scale
A&D scales utilize a different procedure to take a reading, as noted below for each
model type:

Weight placed on the edge of the scale may cause the scale to tip and create a falling hazard.
Do NOT step onto or attempt to stand on the edge of the scale.
