4 Verifying Installation

4.1 Overview of Actions

Once the installation of the AFC-3000 has been completed, it is important to verify the
correct installation to ensure proper functionality of the fraction collector.
Installation verification of the fraction collector consists of three parts:
• Visual inspection of all components
• Ensuring that the communications interface between the fraction collector and the
Chromeleon computer is working
• Ensuring that the diverter valve assembly functions properly
This chapter explains how to test the above items before you use the fraction collector.

4.2 Inspecting Components Prior to Fluidic Operation

Complete the following steps:
1. Shut down and unplug the fraction collector.
2. Visually inspect the drop former, rinse station and all attached tubing for leaks or signs
of damage.
If you detect a leak or other damage to a fraction collector component, you must replace the
component. For more information, see the Service section (→ page 61).

4.3 Testing the Interface

Test the communications interface between the fraction collector and the Chromeleon
computer.
1. Start the Chromeleon Server if it is not already running (→ page 39).
2. Verify that the cable is properly connected.
3. Start the Chromeleon client by clicking the Chromeleon icon
If the Chromeleon icon is not on the desktop, click Start on the taskbar, point to
Programs (or All Programs, depending on the operating system), point to Chromeleon,
and then click Chromeleon.
4. Open the Chromeleon Browser and double-click the UltiMate_3000_AFC-3000.pan
control panel in the Dionex Templates/Panels/Dionex_LC folder.
