5. Connect the control panel to the timebase in which the fraction collector is installed.
On the Control menu, select Connect to Timebase, and then select the timebase on
the Timebase tab. For information about the Timebase dialog, click Help.
6. Verify that the fraction collector is connected to Chromeleon. If it is not, click
Connect.
The fraction collector resets its position, with the diverter valve assembly moving in
defined in X- and Y-direction and back over the rinse position. If the fraction collector
does not reset, see the Troubleshooting section (→ page 59).

4.4 Testing the Drop Former Alignment

The drop former must align to the center of each fraction tube to ensure satisfactory sample
dispensing. Shipping or rough handling can disturb the fraction collector's cabinet-to-base
alignment. If it is incorrectly aligned, the fraction collection into the tubes might be
disturbed. It is therefore important to test it before you actually run samples with the
fraction collector.
Tip: Before testing the alignment of the drop former, ensure that you have installed
all fraction collector components correctly. Also, ensure that you have securely
tightened all finger-tight screws.
Testing the drop former involves observing its operation. To do so, complete the following
steps:
1. Load the universal drip tray with the rack type and tubes intended to be used (→
section 3.3.5).
2. Turn the fraction collector power switch on and verify that the LED power indicator is
on (blue).
3. Set the correct rack configuration in Chromeleon (→ section 5.2.3, page 49).
4. In Chromeleon, open the Commands dialog box (→ page 46). Click the plus sign
beside AFC, and then click TubePosition.
5. In the TubePosition box, select a suitable position, for example, position 1, and click
Execute to move the drop former to the designated dispense position. Check that the
drop former tip correctly accesses each position at the center of the tube. Repeat for
further suitable positions as needed.
Tip: If the fraction collector alignment is not correct, contact Thermo Fisher
Scientific Service for Dionex HPLC Products.
