NOTE
Creating a User-Defined Calibration Kit
A user-defined calibration kit is created by modifying a kit that is
already listed under the Cal Kit menu and saving this modified kit as
one of ten User Cal Kits (User Cal Kit A–J). (The original kit remains
unchanged.) There are several situations that may require you to create
a user-defined calibration kit:
• Your port has a connector type listed under the Cal Kit menu, but
your calibration standards (such as a short) have different
characteristics than the standard HP calibration kits.
• Your port has a connector type which does not correspond to one of
the standard HP calibration kits.
• You are calibrating for a noninsertable device. Refer to
Modify the Calibration Kit Definition of the Through Standard" on
page
3-29.
• You are calibrating for a multiport device that has one or more
noninsertable port pairs. Refer to your multiport test set's User's and
Service Guide for more information.
If your port has a connector type (TNC for example) which is not one of
the selections under the Cal-Kit menu, you may want to select APC-7 as
your port since it has nearly ideal characteristics. Next, modify the
calibration-kit characteristics so they match those of the TNC standards
that you will use, and store the user-defined kit as one of ten User Cal
Kits (User Cal Kit A–J).
The following steps (explained later in detail) should be performed when
creating a user-defined calibration kit file:
1. Determine the characteristics of the calibration standards you plan to
use.
2. Create a user-defined calibration kit in either of the following ways:
• Use the softkeys under the Modify Kit menu and store the
calibration kit as one of ten User Cal Kits (User Cal Kit A–J).
• Edit the ASCII file provided on the Example Programs Disk or
create your own ASCII file, and download it into the analyzer as
one of ten User Cal Kits (User Cal Kit A (default) or User Cal Kit
B–J).
