VTEC Rocker Arms
Manual Inspection (D16Y5 engine)

1 .
Set the No. 1 piston at TDC.
Remove the cylinder head cover.
NOTE: Refer to page 6-46 when installing the cylin-
der head cover.
lvlove the intake secondary rocker arm on the No. 1
c y l i n d e r m a n u a l l y .
Check that the intake secondary rocker arm moves
independently of the primary intake rocker arm.

. Push and pull.
C h e c k t h e i n t a k e s e c o n d a r y r o c k e r a r m o f e a c h
cylinder at TDC.

lf the intake secondary rocker arm does not move,
remove the primary and secondary intake rocker
arms as an assembly and check that the pistons in
t h e s e c o n d a r y a n d p r i m a r y r o c k e r a r m s m o v e
smoothly.
. lf any rocker arm needs replacing. replace the pri-
mary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly.

Set the No. I piston at TDC.
Remove the cylinder head cover.
NOTE: Refer to page 6-46 when installing the cylin-
der head cover.
Push the intake mid rocker arm on the No, I cylin-
d e r m a n u a l l y .
Check that the intake mid rocker arm moves indepen-
dently of the primary and secondary intake rocker
arms.
MID ROCKER

SECONOARY
ROCKER ARM
Check the intake mid rocker arm of each cylinder at
TDC.
. l f t h e i n t a k e m i d r o c k e r a r m d o e s n o t m o v e ,
remove the mid, primary and secondary intake
rocker arms as an assembly and check that the pis-
tons in the mid and primary rocker arms move
smoothly.

lf any rocker arm needs replacing, replace the
primary, mid, and secondary rocker arms as an
assemoly.
