Configuring the Wireless Network
TIP
Unified Communications UC 320W Administration Guide
Use the Wireless page to enable and configure the security for wireless networks
for data traffic and voice traffic.
Opening this page: From the navigation pane, choose LAN Settings > Wireless.
Check the Enabled box to enable the network, or uncheck the box to disable the
network. For each enabled network, enter the settings, as described below.
Network Name SSID: Enter a name, known as a Service Set Identifier
(SSID), to identify the wireless network to users. The SSID can include from
1-31 characters. Do not include spaces or special characters.
Broadcast SSID: Check this box if you want to broadcast the network name
to all wireless devices in range. Users of wireless devices will be able to
see the SSID when they scan for available networks. Uncheck this box to
prevent auto-detection of the SSID. In this case, a user must know the SSID
to set up a wireless connection to the network. SSID Broadcast is enabled
by default.
Security Strength: From the drop-down list, choose the type of security
required for access to the wireless network. Cisco recommends choosing
the highest level of security that is compatible with your wireless devices.
The following options are available:
-
Higher Security (WPA2): Cisco recommends this option. WPA2
provides better security than WEP because it uses dynamic key
encryption. If you choose this option, also enter a WPA PassPhrase. It
can include any numbers or letters and must be between 8 and 63
characters long. Example: HagensKey1293.
-
Better compatibility with older devices (WEP): Choose this option if
you need to allow wireless access by network devices that are not
compatible with WPA2. However, be aware that WEP is not considered
to be secure and can easily be broken. If you choose this option, enter a
WEP Key. It can include hexadecimal characters (a-f, 0-9) and must be
either 10 (64-bit WEP) or 26 (128-bit WEP) characters long. Example:
1e34a678f0123456e89b123cc6
-
None: Choose this option to allow any wireless device within range to
access your wireless network. This option is not recommended. Instead,
you should use the highest level of security that is compatible with your
network devices.
