Unified Communications UC 320W Administration Guide
L2TP DHCP
Select this option if your ISP usesL2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) and did not
assign a static IP address to your account. Enter the Username and Password for
your Internet account. Also enter the Server IP address for the ISP server.
Optionally, you can enter the Domain Name for the ISP server.
Also configure your connection with the Keep Alive or Connect On Demand
option, as described below.
Keep Alive: Choose this option to use Keep Alive messages to keep the
connection permanently open, regardless of the level of Internet activity by
your users.
Connect On Demand: Choose this option to open a connection only when
a user attempts to connect to the Internet. In the Max Idle Time field, enter
the number of minutes of inactivity that will cause the connection to be
terminated. This option is recommended if your billing is based on the time
that you are connected.
One disadvantage of using a dynamic IP address is that if your IP address changes,
your Unified Communications System and all connected devices will reboot.
Telephone service will be interrupted.
L2TP Static
Select this option if your ISP uses L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) and gave you
a static IP address. Enter the Username and Password for your Internet account.
Enter your static IP Address, the Subnet Mask, the IP address of the Default
Gateway, and the IP address for the Primary DNS server, as provided by your ISP.
Also enter the Server IP address for the ISP server. Finally, configure your
connection with the Keep Alive or Connect On Demand option, as described
below. Optional settings include a Secondary DNS server, and a Domain Name.
