Problems
Engine does not start.
Engine stalls.
SECTION 10 - - ENGINE - - CHAPTER 1

TROUBLESHOOTING

Possible Causes
1. Batteries partially discharged.
2. Battery terminal connections cor-
roded or loose.
3. Injection pump timing incorrect.
4. Impurities or water in fuel lines.
5. No fuel in tank.
6. Fuel supply pump malfunction.
7. Air in fuel system.
8. Starter motor faulty.
9. Thermostarter faulty.
1. Idle speed too low.
2. Injection pump delivery irregular. Check injection pump delivery on test
3. Impurities or water in fuel lines.
4. Fuel filters clogged.
5. Incorrect valve -- rocker arm
clearances.
6. Burnt or cracked valves.
7. Air in fuel system.
8. Injection pump drive mechanism
damaged.
Solutions
Check and recharge batteries. Re-
place if necessary.
Clean, inspect and tighten terminal
nuts. Replace terminals and nuts if
excessively corroded.
Adjust injection pump timing.
Disconnect fuel lines from injection
pump and clean thoroughly. If neces-
sary clean and dry the fuel tank.
Fill tank.
Check and replace pump if neces-
sary.
Check fuel lines, unions, supply
pump, filters and injection pump for
air; then bleed the air from the circuit.
Repair or replace starter motor.
Check and replace thermostarter if
necessary.
Adjust idle speed.

Disconnect fuel lines from injection
pump and clean thoroughly. If neces-
sary clean and dry the fuel tank.
Replace the filter cartridges.
Adjust the clearance between the
rocker arms and the valves.
Replace the valves.
Check fuel lines, unions, supply
pump, filters and injection pump for
air; then bleed the air from the circuit.
Replace damaged parts.
