LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR

Functional Checks
The device is composed of the control switch (1,
fig. 280), engine oil pressure gauge (2, fig. 281).
This indicator light (1) indicates the engine oil pres-
sure is too low.
Switch off the engine and look for the cause of the
trouble.
The indicator comes on under the following circum-
stances:
--
low oil pressure;
--
control switch (1, fig. 280) malfunction.
If the red lamp fails to illuminate when the engine is
stopped and the ignition switch is turned to the power
ON position, the possible causes are:
--
blown fuse;
--
blown lamp;
--
interruption in wire to the control switch.
NOTE: When the engine oil pressure is too low, the
indicator light comes on with the ignition key on B
(ready for starting).
OIL FILTER
Replacement
The oil filter (3, fig. 54) is the paper integral cartridge
type.
If the filter gets too clogged, the safety valve opens
to enable the oil to by--pass the filter, keeping the en-
gine lubricated, albeit with non--filtered oil.
Replace the cartridge periodically (every 800 operat-
ing hours), remembering to:
--
oil the outer part of the seal in contact with the
mounting on the crankcase;
--
screw on the new cartridge until the seal is up
against the mounting;
--
tighten the cartridge, by hand only, through a
further 3/4 turn.
