Air filter
 Check air filter.
 Clean/replace the air filter if necessary.
(see Chapter Care and Maintenance)
Refill liquid softener
– The liquid softener highly effectively
prevents the calcification of the heating
coil during operation with hard tap wa-
ter. It is dosed into the supply in the float
container drop by drop.
– The metering is set to medium water ri-
gidity by the manufacturer
Note: A sample bundle of liquid softener is
included in the delivery.
 Open filling hole for liquid softener.
 Refill liquid softener.
 Close filling hole for liquid softener.
Refill fuel
DANGER
Risk of explosion! Only fill in diesel fuel. In-
appropriate fuels, e.g. petrol, must not be
used.
Note: When biodiesel B5 (as per EN 14214
- European Standard) is used, no special
operating, service and maintenance condi-
tions need to be observed.
Note: When biodiesel B6 to B20 (as per EN
14214 - European Standard) is used, mod-
ification measures of the diesel engine are
required. Moreover, special operating, ser-
vice and maintenance conditions must be
observed. Please contact an authorised
Yanmar dealer.
 Open fuel filler cap.
 Fill in diesel fuel via the filling nozzle of
the fuel tank.
 Close tank lock.
 Wipe away spilled diesel fuel.
Refill detergent
HDS 13/20, HDS 17/20 only:
DANGER
Risk of injury!
– Use Kärcher products only.
– Under no circumstances fill solvents
(petrol, aceton, diluting agent etc.)
– Avoid eye and skin contact.
– Observe safety and handling instruc-
tions by the detergent manufacturer.
Kärcher offers an individual cleaning
and care appliances program.
Your dealer will consult you gladly.
 Fill/replace detergent container.
Battery
Note: As standard, the device is equipped
with a maintenance-free battery.
Safety notes regarding the battery
Please observe the following warning notes
when handling batteries:
Observe the notes on the bat-
tery and in the operating in-
structions!
Wear an eye shield!
Keep away children from acid
and batteries!
Risk of explosion!
Fire, sparks, open light, and
smoking not allowed!
Danger of causticization!
First aid!
Warning note!
Disposal!
Do not throw the battery in the
dustbin!

Risk of explosion! Do not put tools or similar
on the battery, i.e. on the terminal poles
and cell connectors.
DANGER
Risk of injury! Ensure that wounds never
come into contact with lead. Always clean
your hands after having worked with batter-
ies.
DANGER
Risk of chemical burns. Always wear acid-
resistant goggles, gloves and an apron
when working with battery acid.

Charging battery
DANGER
Risk of injury! Comply with safety regula-
tions on the handling of batteries. Observe
the directions provided by the manufacturer
of the charger.
 Disconnect battery.
 Connect positive terminal cable from
the charger to the positive pole connec-
tion on the battery.
 Connect negative terminal cable from
the charger to the negative pole con-
nection on the battery.
 Plug in mains connector and switch on
charger.
 Charge battery using lowest possible
level of charging current.
Install the hand-spray gun, the jet
pipe, the nozzle and the high
pressure hose
 Connect ray tube with hand spray gun
 Tighten the screw connection of the
spray lance finger tight.
 Insert high pressure nozzle into cover-
ing nut
 Install covering nut and tighten firmly
 Connect the high pressure hose to the
hand-spray gun.
ATTENTION
Risk of damage. Always unwind high-pres-
sure hose completely.
Water connection
For connection values refer to technical
specifications
 Uncoil the water hose from the hose
reel and connect it to the water supply
(e.g. tap).
Filling water tanks
 Open the supply tap of the water tanks.
 Uncoil the water hose from the hose
reel and connect it to the water supply
(e.g. tap).
 Open the water supply.
The water tanks are filled via the float
container. When the water tanks are
filled, the float valve in the float contain-
er closes.
 Shut off water supply.
 Disconnect the water hose from the wa-
ter supply.
 Coil water hose onto hose reel.
