-7. Slide the mainshaft base over the mainshaft.

-8. Attach the mainshaft holder to the mainshaft as fol-
NOTE:
. Back-out the mainshaft holder bolt and loosen
the two hex bolts.
. F i t t h e h o l d e r o v e r t h e m a i n s h a f t s o i t s l i p i s
towards the transmission.
. A l i g n t h e m a i n s h a f t h o l d e r ' s l i p a r o u n d t h e
g r o o v e a t t h e i n s i d e o t t h e m a i n s h a f t s p l i n e s ,
then tighten the hex bolts.

- 9 . S e a t t h e m a i n s h a f t f u l l y b y t a p p i n g i t s e n d w i t h a
plastic hammer.
- 1 0 . T h r e a d t h e m a i n s h a f t h o l d e r b o l t i n u n t i l i t j u s t c o n -
tacts the wide surface of the mainshaft base.
- 1 1. Zero a dial gauge on the end of the mainshaft.
12.Turn the mainshaft holder bolt clockwise; stop turn-
ing when the dial gauge has reached its maximum
m o v e m e n t . T h e r e a d i n g o n t h e d i a l g a u g e i s t h e
amount of mainshaft end play.
CAUTION: Turning the mainshaft holder bolt mor€
than 60 degrees after the needle ol the dial gauge
stops moving may damage the transmission,

- 13.lf the reading is within the standard, the clearance is
correq.
lf the reading is not within the standard, recheck the
shim thickness.
Standard: 0.11 - 0.18 mm {0.004 - 0.007 in)
