crankshaft in TDC position with locating screw,

Removing and installing camshaft bearing cap/
camshaft
For the sake of clarity, these illustrations show the
vehicle with the drive swinging arm removed

Caution:
The marks on the sprockets must be in line
•
Slacken timing chain and install pin,
BMW No. 11 7 531, instead of chain tensioner
•
Reinstall screw
•
Remove chain glide rail

Note:
The camshafts can also be removed and installed
complete with the camshaft sprockets
•
Camshaft sprockets are secured with thread-
locking compound; slacken fasteners and re-
move
•
Remove 8 securing screws
•
Remove camshaft bearing cap
•
Remove camshafts
•
Remove camshaft bearing seat
•
Note down values on underside
•
Remove all traces of Loctite from threads of
camshafts and guide rail
