Removing/installing coolant sealing cap at top
of cylinder head
Remove the engine spoiler (
Remove left and right fairing side sections
(
46.8).

Drain coolant (
00.67).
a
Remove the heat shield.
Pull off spark plug caps with flat pliers.
Remove spark plugs from cylinders 2 and 3.
Using a punch positioned off-centre (arrow), tap
coolant sealing cap (1) until it is at a right angle in
its bore.

coolant sealing cap (2) until it is at a right angle in
its bore.

Do not permit coolant sealing caps to drop into the
coolant system; use a magnetic grab to remove the
sealing caps if necessary.

Use water-pump pliers to remove coolant seal-
ing caps (1) and (2).
Important:
Clean the seating faces for the coolant sealing
caps in the cylinder head.
Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure. Pay particular attention to the following:
Apply Loctite 270 to the entire outer circumfer-
ences of coolant sealing caps (1) and (2).

Drive in coolant sealing caps (1) and (2) until
seated below bevel, using hammer and drift,
BMW No. 11 6 761.
Fill the cooling system.
Check cooling system for leaks (
