Warning:
Do not separate the brake calliper halves.

Caution:
Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with
painted parts of the motorcycle or with the brake
pads.

Drain the brake system.
e
Caution:
Avoid scratching the wheel rim; if necessary mask
off the brake calliper.
•
Firmly press the brake calliper against the brake
disc in order to force back the brake pads and
pistons.

Note:
If the brake pads/pistons cannot be forced back in
this way, there may be some other fault in the brake
system.

Remove the brake pads.
•
Slacken banjo bolt (1) for brake hose and remove
brake hose.
•
Remove fasteners (arrows) securing brake calli-
per.

Caution:
Do not operate the brake with the brake calliper re-
moved.
•
Carefully remove the brake calliper.
•
Release boot (1) from brake-calliper carrier.
•
Release boot (2) from brake calliper.
•
Remove brake calliper from its carrier.
When installing:
•
Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure: pay particular attention to the following.

Caution:
Do not damage the brake pads when installing.
•
If necessary, press the brake pads/pistons fully
back with resetting tool, BMW No. 34 1 500.
•
Fit new sealing rings on banjo bolt (1).

Fill and bleed the brake system.

Tightening torques:
Brake calliper at fork slider tube ................... 41 Nm
Banjo bolt to brake calliper........................... 18 Nm
Bleed screw ................................................. 14 Nm
