Replacing sliding-tube seal

Caution:
Do not scrape the slider tube – mask it off if neces-
sary.

Lever out the dust wiper (1).
•
Remove retaining ring (2).
•
Carefully lever out sealing ring (3) with a screw-
driver.
When installing:
•
Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure: pay particular attention to the following.

Caution:
Do not forget washer (4).

•
Drive in the new sealing ring with drift,
BMW No. 31 3 631, until seated.
•
Install slider tube bridge complete with slider
tubes and front wheel.

Warning:
Note that high torque has to be applied to loosen
the ball joint fastener.
•
Release the ball joint fastener with the 46 mm
(1.81 in) socket wrench insert,
BMW No. 31 5 630.
