3 Carefully pull the pump away from the
engine and secure it from moving.
Component damage hazard.
Hoses can be damaged if they are
kinked or pinched.
4 Remove the flex plate mounting fasteners,
then remove the flex plate from the engine fly
wheel.
How to Install the Flex Plate
1 Install the flex plate onto the engine flywheel
with the raised spline towards the pump.
Torque the flex plate mounting bolts to 34 ft-lbs
(46 Nm).
2 Install the pump coupler onto the pump shaft
with the set screw towards the pump. Leave a

/ inch (1.5 mm) gap between the pump

coupler and pump end plate.1

3 Apply Loctite removable thread sealant to the
pump coupler set screw. Torque the set screw
to 45 ft-lbs (61 Nm).
4 Install the pump and torque the pump mounting
plate fasteners to 34 ft-lbs (46 Nm).

Water Temperature and Oil
Pressure Switches
The water temperature switch is a normally open
switch that closes at approximately 230° F
(112° C). When the switch closes, the engine will
shut off to prevent damage and will not start until
the temperature drops below the switch point. The
check engine light will turn on. See Repair
Procedure 10-5, How to Retrieve Engine Fault
Codes.
The oil pressure switch is a normally closed switch
that opens at approximately 3 to 5 psi (0.21 to
0.34 bar). If the oil pressure drops below the switch
point, the switch opens and shuts off the engine to
prevent damage. The check engine light will turn
on. See Repair Procedure 10-5, How to Retrieve
Engine Fault Codes.
