Remote IPE equipment problems (cont'd.)
Symptoms
Red Alarm LEDs on
the Fiber Remote
Multi-IPE Interface on.
Both red and yellow
Alarm LEDs are on
the Fiber Remote
Multi-IPE Interface.
Amber Maintenance
LED is on.
Link is OK but no
communication with
the system monitor.
Display on the
Peripheral Controller
card shows fault
codes.
Error messages
displayed on the MMI
terminal or printed on
the TTY.
If the problem cannot be resolved after exhausting all available diagnostic
tools and test procedures, make a list of the symptoms and contact the
field service representative.

Fiber-optic link is
faulty.
Alarms are disabled or
off-line diagnostic test
is in progress.

Card is faulty. Failed
self-test or problem
communicating with
intelligent peripheral
equipment.
Hardware or software
problems with the
Remote IPE.

Solution
Check fiber-optic link connections and go to
Procedure 42 "Checking the superloop and the
fiber-optic link status" (page 135)
the status. Then go to
the superloops and the fiber-optic link" (page
137)

Procedure 44 "Testing the superloop"

to test the equipment.
Check the link cable connections to the
Fiber Remote Multi-IPE Interface unit. Go to
Procedure 43 "Testing the superloops and the
fiber-optic link" (page 137)
"Testing the fiber-optic link" (page 140)
the fiber-optic link.
Enable the alarms, if disabled. Wait for the test
to complete and analyze the results of the test.
Otherwise terminate the off-line test by entering
S (stop) command at the MMI terminal.
Define a unique address correctly. Observe
the XMI messages on the MMI terminal and
check the description of these messages
listed in Software Input Output Administration
(NN43001-611) () . Use this information to
locate and correct the fault.
Go to
Procedure 39 "Checking the Peripheral
Controller card tracking status" (page
and 8 to check tracking and loopback. Also
refer to
"Peripheral Controller HEX codes and
cable connection diagrams" (page 149)
list of codes. Based on the test results and
maintenance display codes description, take the
appropriate action and resolve the problem.
Note various error messages. Refer to Software
Input Output Administration (NN43001-611)
() for a list of these messages and their
description. Based on the code's description,
take the appropriate action to resolve the
problem.
