CRANKCASE ASSEMBLY

NOTICE
The water pump cross-shaft assembly and snap ring
must be installed in the lower crankcase half prior to
installing the crankshaft and crankcase.
1. Apply Three Bond 1217H or 1215 crankcase sealant
to the lower crankcase mating surface following the
details outlined in the crankcase sealant path
procedure. See Crankcase Sealant Path page 3.55.
NOTICE
Do not over-apply sealant in oil injector area. Doing so
may block the oil passage.
2. Install the lower crankcase
NOTICE
Ensure water pump cross shaft turns and indexes with
crankshaft during assembly.
During installation, make sure the outer race of the PTO
bearing is against the standoff feature of the seal.
Do NOT allow the bearing to slide against the
crankshaft.

3. Loosely install the crankcase fasteners, then torque
fasteners in sequence to specification. After the
proper torque has been applied to the fasteners,
allow crankcase sealant to cure for at least 1 hour
before proceeding.
TORQUE
Crankcase Fasteners:
24 ft-lbs (32 N·m)
Torque in sequence page 3.50
Apply VES oil under fastener head and to threads prior
to installation.
NOTICE
The inner crankcase fasteners are longer than the outer
crankcase fasteners.
4. Follow the important details outlined below.
IMPORTANT
After allowing crankcase sealant to cure for at least 1
hour, use syringe to pump 0.67 - 1.01 fl oz (20 - 30 mL)
of VES / VES Extreme oil into PTO, MAG and center

check valves
. Do not pump oil into the two rod
gallery high-flow check valves.
