THE THICKNESS GAUGE

This section describes the 1010P Portable Flowmeter Thickness Gauge function.
8.1

INTRODUCTION

System 1010P Portable Flowmeters include a Thickness Gauge for convenient pipe wall thickness
measurement at the selected mounting location. To use, you will need the optional 1011TS Thickness
Gauge Transducer. This highly recommended option ensures the accuracy of this important set-up
parameter. It produces a numeric report and a graphic display of a pipe's wall thickness by timing the
wall reflections (these reflections vary in proportion to the wall thickness). It produces accurate mea-
surements of pipe walls from 0.1" (2.5 mm) to over 2.00" (50.8 mm).
NOTE: When you select Thickness Gauge the meter disables all flow measurement.
If you order the 1011TS transducer when you purchase your 1010P/WDP system, the factory matches
the transducer to the flow computer. This allows you to take measurements immediately. Should you
purchase the 1011TS separately, you will need to perform a simple calibration procedure to contour the
1011TS to the transmit/receive profile of your flow computer. Also, consider re-calibrating if you sus-
pect that a reading may not be accurate.
The Thickness Gauge may be applied to pipe surfaces ranging in temperatures from -40º F to 180º F
(-40º C to 82º C) when used with the appropriate coupling compound. Note: Do not use CC102 couplant
compound on pipes with a temperature greater than 100º F (38º C) or less than 32º F (0º C). For all
pipe surface temperatures between -40º F (-40º C) and 180º F (82º C) use CC128 couplant com-
pound.
