FUEL SYSTEM
OPERATION INSPECTION
Remove the carburetor (page 5-8).
Remove the float chamber (page 5-12).
Insert a vinyl hose into the starter jet (fuel enrich-
ment circuit) and blow into the hose.
Air should flow into the circuit.
Connect the 12 V battery to the SE valve 2P connec-
tor terminals and wait 5 minutes.
Insert a vinyl hose into the starter jet (fuel enrich-
ment circuit) and blow into the hose.
Air should not flow into the circuit.
If operation is abnormal, replace the SE valve.
Install the carburetor (page 5-16).
SECONDARY AIR SUPPLY SYSTEM
SYSTEM INSPECTION
Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating
temperature.
Remove the air cleaner housing cover (page 3-5).
Remove the secondary air cleaner element.
Check that the secondary air intake ports are clean
and free of carbon deposits.
If the ports are carbon fouled, check the PAIR check
valve (page 5-23).
Wash away any accumulated dust or dirt, by gently
squeezing it in non flammable or high flash-point
solvent.
Install the secondary air cleaner element and air
cleaner housing cover (page 3-5).
'02 - '05 model only:
Pull out the secondary air supply hose from the
inner side of the lower cover.
Disconnect the PAIR control valve vacuum hose
from the PAIR control valve and plug it to keep air
from entering.
Connect the vacuum pump to the PAIR control valve
vacuum hose joint.
