8. Now take the negative (-)
(black) cable. First connect it
to the good battery's
negative (-) terminal. Use the
remote negative (-) terminal if
the vehicle has one. Don't let
the other end touch metal yet.
Do not connect the
negative (-) cable to the
negative (-) terminal on the
dead battery because this can
cause sparks.
9. Attach the other end of the
negative cable to a heavy
metal part on the engine of
the vehicle with the
discharged battery, or to a
remote negative (-) terminal if
the vehicle has one.
Attach the cable at least 45 cm
(18 inches) away from the
dead battery, but not near
engine parts that move.
Use the remote negative (-)
terminal if your vehicle has
one.

10. Start the vehicle with the
good battery. Run the engine
for a while.
11. Then try to start the other
vehicle.
If the engine does not start
after a few tries, the vehicle
may need service.
12. Remove the cables in reverse
order to prevent electrical
shorting.
