Remove and then reinstall the
child restraint.
Follow the manufacturer's instruc-
tions.
A thick layer of material (such as a
blanket) or aftermarket equipment
(such as seat covers, heaters or
massagers) located between the
seat cushion and the child restraint
or small occupant can affect how
the passenger sensing system
operates. Remove any additional
material from the seat cushion
before reinstalling or securing the
child restraint or small occupant.
If, after you restart the vehicle, the
"on" indicator still appears, turn
the engine off again.
Check that the vehicle's seatback is
not pressing the child restraint into
the seat cushion. If it is, slightly
recline the vehicle's seatback and
adjust the seat cushion if possible.
Also make sure that the child
restraint is not trapped under the
vehicle's head restraint. If this
happens, adjust the head restraint.
Restart the engine.
CAUTION
If the "on" indicator still
appears, secure the restraint in
a rear seat position and have
your vehicle serviced as soon as
possible.
See "Child Restraints" later in this
section.
Section 2
SYSTEM OPERATION WITH
ADULT PASSENGERS
When the system senses that a
person of adult size is sitting in the
front passenger seat, the front
passenger's air bags will be reacti-
vated and the "on" indicator will
appear in the Passenger Air Bag
On/Off Indicator.
In order for the system to correctly
assess the status of the front
passenger's air bag, the passenger
must sit properly in the seat.
