Starting and Operating Instructions

Hitches

It's important to have the correct
hitch equipment. Sidewinds and
rough roads are a few reasons why
you'll need the right hitch.
The maximum permissible trailer
loads are vehicle and engine
dependent and must not be
exceeded.
• If you are using a weight-carry-
ing or weight-distributing
hitch, the trailer tongue weight
should be 10 to 15 percent of
the total loaded trailer weight.
Do not exceed the maximum
allowable tongue weight for
your vehicle.

• If you are using a weight-dis-
tributing hitch, adjust the hitch
so that distance
, measured
at the front of the vehicle
remains the same before and
after coupling the trailer to the
vehicle.
Do not exceed any weight ratings.
See your dealer for advice and
information about towing a trailer
with your vehicle.

Safety Chains

You should always attach chains
between your vehicle and your
trailer. Cross the safety chains
under the tongue of the trailer so
that the tongue will not drop to
the road if it becomes separated
from the hitch.
Always leave just enough slack so
you can turn with your rig. And,
never allow safety chains to drag
on the ground.
