Problems on the Road
4. Now open the hood and
locate the positive (+) and
negative (-) battery terminals.
CAUTION
Fans or other moving engine
parts can injure you badly. Keep
your hands away from moving
parts once the engine is
running.
Your vehicle has a remote
negative (-) battery terminal.
Always use the remote
negative ground location
instead of the terminal on your
vehicle's battery.
To access your vehicle's
positive terminal, you will
need to open the cover.

- 3.7 L L5 Engine:
The remote negative (-)
terminal (marked GND) is
located near the front of the
engine compartment.
See the engine compartment
diagram in Section 4 to lo-
cate the remote terminal.
5. Check that the jumper cables
don't have any loose or
missing insulation. If they do,
you could get a shock and the
vehicles could be damaged.
Do not connect positive (+) to
negative (-) or you will get a
short that would damage the
battery and possibly other
parts.
Do not connect the
negative (-) cable to the
negative (-) terminal on the
dead battery because this can
cause sparks.

6. Connect the positive (+) (red)
cable to the positive (+)
terminal on the discharged
battery. Use the remote
positive (+) terminal if the
vehicle has one.
7. Don't let the other end touch
metal, then connect it to the
positive (+) terminal of the
good battery.
Use the remote positive (+)
terminal if the vehicle has one.
