Chapter 1 Overview

1.1 TX300 S4

This is a tower type server with high-performance, high-reliability, and high-
scalability, having the following features.
High reliability
Advanced memory protection function
This server supports the Single Device Data Correction (SDDC) function included in PC2-5300F (DDR
2-667)-compliant memory module (Fully Buffered DIMM). Also, the memory mirroring function and
memory sparing function are supported to enable data restoration when a memory error occurs.
Disk array configuration
As a standard feature, a SAS controller card (Integrated Mirroring SAS) or a SAS array controller card
(MegaRAID SAS) is installed with the server. With those controller cards, array systems can be
configured.
Redundant function
The Power Supply Conversion kit enables the redundant function for power supply units and system
fans. If one of the power supply units is failed, the function makes it possible to replace or repair the
failed unit without system shut down.
Configured disk array systems allow replacement and/or restoration of internal hard disk units without
turning off the server and peripheral devices when the hard disk in the server is failed (available for hot
plug, except of RAID 0).
Hardware and software designed for data security
This server is designed to provide provisions for data securities to guard the hardware and data assets
with systems, such as locking a drive cover and setting a password in BIOS Setup Utility.
Proactive fan function
Stable system operations can be performed with automatically increasing the rotating speed of the
system fan to control temperature in the server as a fan fails or the ambient temperature rises.
Remote management control function
This server has a function of the onboard remote service board. By using the Remote Management
Control function, you can use the Web interface to turn on/off or reset the server (remote control
function) and to monitor the server operation.
For details, refer to "Appendix D Remote Management Controller" ( pg.267).
