4.6.3 Teaming

Teaming types
Teaming has the following types.
Smart Load Balancing (Smart Load Balancing™ and Failover)
Smart Load Balancing uses a virtual NIC by sharing the IP address with multiple NICs and performs
load balancing on a TCP/UDP session basis. Since a communication is performed by multiple NICs, the
communication can continue even if any of the NICs fails. With Smart Load Balancing, you can set one
NIC as a standby member. If all primary members fail, a standby member takes over the primary
members' MAC address and IP address in order to continue the communication (Failover). When using
standby members in Smart Load Balancing, you can set whether to enable the Auto-Fallback mode
(Auto-Fallback mode) or disable the Auto-Fallback mode (Auto-Fallback disable mode).
Auto-Fallback mode
With this mode, multiple NICs are divided into primary members (operating) and standby members
(waiting). Usually, primary members are active and perform communication while standby members are
inactive and have no data communication.
When a link error is detected in a primary member, a standby member becomes active (Failover) to
continue the communication. When the link status of the primary member is restored, the primary
member returns to be active and the standby member returns to be inactive (Fallback).
Auto-Fallback disable mode
With this mode, even when a link of a primary member is restored after a standby member became
active, the standby member stays active and being used (no Fallback occurs).
802.3ad Link Aggregation using Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP)
With this mode, a team is configured by using Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP). All team
members must be connected to the same switch where LACP is set. Note that you cannot set standby
members in this mode.
FEC/GEC Generic Trunking
With this mode, a team is configured by using FEC/GEC Generic Trunking. All team members must be
connected to the same switch where FEC/GEC Generic Trunking is set. Note that you cannot set standby
members in this mode.
