6.3.3 Defective CPU Disconnection Function

This server has a defective CPU disconnection function.
This function disconnects the CPU judged to be defective (abnormal) during Power On Self Test
(POST) to start the server. When two CPUs are installed and one of them is defective, the server starts to
operate with the available CPU.
In this case, "CPU n failed" ("n" indicates defective CPU number) is displayed during POST.
If there is any defective CPUs, replace it and restart the server.
1
Turn on the server, and identify the location of a defective CPU by referring to
the message displayed during POST.

install the CPU" ( pg.143).

Turn on the server, and start up BIOS Setup Utility.
4
From the [Server] menu, select the [CPU Status] submenu, and make sure that
the menu item of [CPU n Status] ("n" indicates the replaced CPU number) is
"Enabled".
When the menu item is "Disabled" or "Failed", change the CPU status to "Enabled".
148
• When attaching the CPU fan holder, be careful not to scratch cables.
The server will start to operate recognizing the newly installed CPU as failure yet, if not set to
"Enabled". Setting to "Enabled" releases the status of the failed CPU in the next boot, and
allows operation with the newly installed CPU.
