6.4.3 Memory Redundant Functions

Memory redundant functions (memory mirroring function and memory sparing function) can be set for
this server. This section explains installation conditions and BIOS settings.

Memory mirroring function

To use the memory mirroring function, change the setting in BIOS Setup Utility. The memory mirroring
consist of the memory board 1 and 2. Available memory capacity (logical capacity) will be reduced by a
half of the physical capacity. Data will be written to the memory board 1 and 2. The operating system
will continue to operate even when an uncorrectable memory error occurs. However, the system will
lose memory redundancy after occurrence of an error since the memory mirroring configuration is
collapsed.
Installation conditions
Install memory modules that have the same capacity in the same slots of memory board 1 and 2.
BIOS settings
After installing the memory modules, perform the following settings to enable the memory mirroring
function.

Install memory modules according to the installation conditions.

Start up BIOS Setup Utility.

Select the [Advanced] menu – [Advanced System Configuration], and press the
[Enter] key.

Select [Memory Redundancy], and press the [Enter] key. Select [Mirroring], and
press the [Enter] key.

Select the [Exit] menu – [Save Changes & Exit], and press the [Enter] key.
A message appears confirming if you want to save the modified BIOS settings.

Select [Yes], and press the [Enter] key.
The memory mirroring function is enabled after restart of the system.
Store the BIOS settings when setting values are changed.
