Volume Mode
The
settings enable you to specify the standard
writing mode to be used when a client mounts the volume, while the
Special Clients
options enable you to specify a different writing
mode for individual clients. You can also specify a unique
ID
number, but you should let Image Manager generate it
automatically.
There are two main write modes called Admin and CVolwrite. The
CVolwrite mode consists of three submodes: Normal, Volatile and
Persistent.
Admin mode is used when you want to install a new application or
make permanent changes to the hard disk image file. In this mode
the client will write directly to the image file, not the CVol write
cache file. The write is permanent.
Note the following:
A volume can be mounted by only one client at the same time in
Admin mode.
No other client can mount a volume while it is being used by a
client in Admin mode.
No client can mount a volume in Admin mode if that volume is
currently mounted by another client in any opening mode.
You can specify which clients are allowed to mount the volume in
Admin mode by using the
In CVolwrite mode, all client writes will be directed to the client's
own CVol data file. It has three submodes called Normal, Volatile
and Persistent, that determine whether the write data is saved or lost
on re-boot.
Normal CVolwrite mode is used when you want the client to be able
to install applications and make system changes without modifying
the hard disk image file. Any application installations, system
changes and disk writes made by the client are stored in the CVol
