Modifying an HD Image to be Used by Several Clients
The following procedure enables you to make changes to a hard disk
image that is used by several clients. For example, to add a new
application so that it is available to all the clients. This must be done
each time you want to modify the reference configuration so that
every client can benefit from the changes you make.
Note: This is the method that you will use every time you want to
make changes to the system drive, such as adding a new application,
but also applying system and software patches, modifying the system
configuration, modify some registry settings, adding users, etc. The
changes that are performed this way will be applied to every station
that uses the modified volume when it is shared.
1
Shutdown all the clients connected to the volumes that will be
affected by the installation of the new application (e.g. the sys-
tem volume and, potentially, other volumes that will store some
of the files that are part of the new application).
In order to update a volume currently used by clients, you may
also copy the HD image file you want to modify and configure
Neoware Image Manager so that the client used to perform the
changes will mount the copy of the HD image file in Admin
mode. This client will then be the only client that mounts the
volume in Admin mode, making it possible for the clients cur-
rently using the original HD image file to keep on working. You
can copy a hard disk image file that is currently being used by
clients, as long as it is not opened in Admin mode. We recom-
mend that you check that this copy will not decrease server per-
formance.
2
Modify the
nvdd
Console or a text editor) so that the virtual volume on which the
changes are to be made is served in Admin mode to the client
that will perform the changes.
