HAL Selection
Windows, you can disable ACPI in your PC BIOS setup before you
install Windows.
You can also press the F5 key during the first part of the Windows
installation (when you can see
or RAID controller
). Then select
your Windows installation, or the specific HAL you want to use.
Note: Non-ACPI installations of Windows can boot ACPI comput-
ers. The opposite is not true. When a computer does not use ACPI, it
can't use advanced power control features such as hibernation,
stand by, software shutdown when the power button is pressed, etc.
You can use an existing Windows installation and "downgrade" the
HAL used by Windows. The procedure is as follows:
