Using a UbiBoot Enabled Hard Disk
A hard disk image is created by running Client Builder on any of the
clients that can be booted from the target HDD, as described in the
chapter "Creating a Client Image" on page 39. If in the future you
need to add or change a client configuration in the hard disk image,
you may need to transfer the image to an actual IDE hard disk to
enable Windows to recognise the new client hardware configuration.
You can make an instance of Windows 2000 or Windows XP learn
to use unknown hardware. Use Neoware UbiBoot and then Neoware
Active Cloner to create a UbiBoot-enabled hard disk drive, then con-
nect that HDD to a PC or a TC containing the unknown hardware.
Power-on the PC or TC and make it boot off the UbiBoot-enabled
hard disk. Windows will detect the new hardware. You may need to
provide drivers media (CD-Rom for instance) for the detected hard-
ware. Windows may ask you to reboot the PC or TC and you should
do so when asked to. In Device Manager, check that all the hardware
has been successfully installed and is working according to your
requirements. Once this is the case, the UbiBoot-enabled HD can be
used to boot any client in which hardware has been detected and
related drivers have been installed.
You can use a Neoware UbiBoot-enabled hard disk as a master HD
for creating an image that can be used for cloning your systems.
Make sure that the original master HD is an IDE hard disk. The fol-
lowing are IDE hard disks: UDMA 33, UDMA 66, UDMA 100,
UDMA 133. SATA disk drives are also usually considered as IDE
disk drives.
