The
CVolCompactor
before merging it with a hard disk image file.
will look at the sectors in the CVol file and compare
CVolCompactor
them with the sectors in the image file. If the sectors are the same,
they are removed from the CVol file. The new CVol file that is gen-
erated will only contain the sectors that are actually different from
those in the image file. Note that sectors are written consecutively in
the new CVol file, so it effectively defragments it. The
tool is also useful because several processes in Windows OS are
tor
actually writing the same data in the same sectors at regular intervals
(registry hives, for example, are regularly dumped on the hard disk).
The syntax for the
CVolCompactor
CVolCompactor <CVol header filename> <image filename>
<new CVol filename>
Windows example:
CVolCompactor testdisk@00E0C554E700 testdisk.vol
testdisknew@00E0C554E700
