Removing a 5.25-inch Peripheral Drive

To remove a peripheral drive:
1. Turn off power to the server and unplug the AC power cords from the power source.
2. Remove the bezel and the front access cover (pages 28 and 30).
3. Remove the fan assembly (page 74).
4. Disconnect the power and data cables from the back of the drive.
5. Facing the front of the drive, press in on the two black plastic tabs (Figure 37, C), one at each
side of the drive, to release the drive from the drive bay.
6. Carefully slide the drive out of the bay and place it on an antistatic surface.
7. Remove the four screws that secure the two slide rails to the drive. Save the screws and
slide rails.
8. If you are installing a replacement device, skip to "Installing a 5.25-inch Peripheral Drive,"
step 6, on page 69 to install that device.
9. Install the fan assembly, front access cover, and bezel.
NOTE
If you leave the drive bay empty, install a metal EMI shield on the bay for proper
cooling and airflow. Installing a drive in the bay or covering the bay with a filler
panel or EMI shield protects the System EMI integrity and cooling. When you
install a drive, save the filler panel and EMI shield to reinstall if you should later
remove the drive and not reinstall one in the same bay.
