3.5.5

Brake

A pedelec's brake system is primarily operated
using the brake lever on the handlebars.
If the left brake lever is pulled, the brake on the
front wheel is applied.
If the right brake lever is pulled, the brake on the
rear wheel is applied.
The brakes are used to regulate speed and make
an emergency stop. Applying the brakes will bring
the pedelec to a safe, rapid halt in an emergency.
The brake is applied using the brake lever either
with the brake lever and brake cable (mechanical
brake) or
with the brake lever and hydraulic brake cable
(hydraulic brake).
3.5.5.1 Mechanical brake
The brake lever is connected to the brake via a
wire inside the shift cable (also known as a
Bowden cable).

3.5.5.2 Hydraulic brake
The brake fluid is in a closed hose system. If the
brake lever is pulled, the brake fluid transfers
pressure to the brake on the wheel.
