2. Working principle
The engine temperature sensor is a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor. By
using the temperature sensitive characteristics of the thermistor, the change of the ambient
temperature is converted into the change of the resistance value of the thermistor, which
is then converted into a voltage signal through a voltage divider circuit and output to the
ECU. The thermistor value decreases with the increase of coolant temperature, but it is not
linear.
