7. 1 Information on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

Warning: Medical electrical devices are subject to special precautions regarding Electromagnetic

Compatibility (EMC). Observe the EMC instructions in this appendix during installation and
commissioning.
The KARL STORZ AIDA
therefore meets the EMC requirements of the Medical Device Directive (MDD) 93/42/EEC.
nOTE: The tables and guidelines that are included in this appendix provide information to the customer

or user that is essential in determining the suitability of the device or system for the electromagnetic
environment of use, and in managing the electromagnetic environment of use to permit the device or
system to perform its intended use without causing interferences in other devices or systems or non-
medical electrical devices. If this device does cause electromagnetic interference with other devices, the
user is encouraged to try to correct this by one or more of the following measures:
• reorient or relocate the receiving device
• increase the separation between the individual devices
• connect the devices to different electrical circuits.

cables other than those specified here, it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that they comply with
IEC 60601-1-2:2007.
Warning: The connection of other devices to the system should be avoided as this could jeopardize

smooth running. If it is necessary to link the system with other devices, it must be established that this
is possible without any interference.
Warning: The device should not be used adjacent to or stacked with other equipment. If adjacent

or stacked use is necessary, the device or system should be observed to verify normal operation in the
configuration in which it will be used.
Warning: Portable RF communications equipment (including peripherals such as antenna cables

and external antennas) should be used not closer than 30 cm (12 inches) to any part of the WD 300
including cables specified by the manufacturer. Otherwise, degradation of the performance of this
equipment could result.
