Internet Access

The BayStack 820 ISDN Router provides Internet access so that everyone on your
LAN can access the Internet and send and receive e-mail messages and files.
The router uses single IP address technology that greatly simplifies configuration.
When you establish a connection to the Internet, the router automatically acquires
the necessary IP address. You do not need to apply for and assign an IP address to
each workstation or device on your network.

Virtual Private Network

The BayStack 820 ISDN Router supports virtual private networks (VPNs), a
special type of connection that permits remote LANs to communicate with
another LAN over a public network, such as the Internet. When users connect this
way, you incur only local toll charges to your ISP. As a security measure, the data
can be encrypted before it travels across the VPN to ensure privacy.
Note: Virtual private networking and encryption are optional features. Contact
your Nortel Networks distributor for more information about purchasing this
feature.
